All my life I’ve surround myself with great people who share a common interest with me in something that we all love. For me, it’s always been my love for the outdoors. As a kid, you would always see me with a fishing rod in one hand or in the woods seeing what I could get into. As far back as I can remember I watched my father, uncle, grandfather, and their friends depart to hunting camp saying to myself I can’t wait for the day I can join them. I’d hear all the stories when they got home of what they saw, or didn’t see. That's where I learned there was so much more to hunting than trying to harvest an animal. For them, it’s always been about the journey and not just the destination. Hunting is something found in your bones, your blood, everything that you’re made of. Not just something you do. It’s not about the harvest but its about the hunt, the chase, the camaraderie, helping each other, and memories you make while doing something you love. What I have learned from this sport is that you can be total strangers but always willing to help each other. Mountain Man is built on the foundation of helping others, our goal is to not only properly care for your game but help educate as well.
Here’s our short story:
So, imagine yourself sitting around the campfire with your friends after a great day, weekend, or week of chasing wild game through woods or fields. Each one of you reminiscing, on the what if’s or should have done to of been lucky enough to harvest one of the gifts mother nature provides. That’s where Mountain Man all started, one-night, good friends and a great idea on how we can help others. The idea came from one night, when one of my friends brought a buddy who was a new hunter on our trip, who asked us questions every new hunter would, such as what to do if they were able to harvest something and who do we use to butcher our harvests. Being all of us had a few adult sodas in us, we each took turns explaining how to field dress a deer and how we all butcher our own game different ways. In the end we just made his head to spin. Talk about a good laugh! But, all of us explained that if he was lucky enough to harvest something, to get one of us and we will help. All of us in the support always want to help each other. Once I got back home, I did some research and learned the low number of processors locally and the art of butchering is fading away. So I decided then I wanted to help others learn what I was taught and passed down to me on processing the game you harvest. I didn’t want a shop, I wanted to do it on a more personable level and have the opportunity to teach as well. Which lead me to the decision of going mobile and taking this on the road to you!
The rest is history on turning an idea into a reality!
